Arlington Hts. signs off on dealership plans

The Arlington Heights village board on Monday approved plans for the Napleton Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep car dealership, which plans to open in early 2013.

The auto dealership will be relocating from Des Plaines to 1155 W. Dundee Road in Arlington Heights.

In June, the village agreed to rebate one-third of the municipal sales tax up to $2.25 million over 10 years as an economic incentive for the car dealership to relocate in Arlington Heights.

The dealership expects to sell 1,700 new cars a year and bring more than 100 employees to Arlington Heights, said Bernard I Citron, a Chicago attorney working with Napleton. About 240 cars will be in the dealership inventory at one particular time, officials said.

Officials from the company said they are expecting a 50 percent increase in sales from the current location at 77 Rand Road in Des Plaines.

Citron said Napleton expects to be up and running in Arlington Heights by the end of January 2013.

Trustees had questions about the amount of customer and employee parking at the site, but they unanimously voted to approve the variations and zoning change Napleton requested.

Trustee John Scaletta asked for a guarantee that employees of the dealership would not park on surrounding streets or in parking lots of neighboring businesses, which he said he has seen become a problem at dealerships in other suburbs, and company officials agreed.

The new dealership plans to be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Mayor Arlene Mulder said she’s glad to see another car dealership move in along Dundee Road because of the economic and sales tax opportunities it will bring. Citron said that having several car dealerships together actually generates more sales than having one in an isolated location because buyers go from one to another to comparison shop.

“I’m excited to see you coming to Arlington Heights. I’m excited to see the jobs you’re bringing and the economic opportunities as well,” said Trustee Joseph Farwell.
