Arts center should go in new downtown

The Buffalo Grove Park District announced last week plans to buy the Beth Am property for a new arts center.

Before the district starts writing checks I’d like to bring to their attention that the tax rate imposed by the BGPD taxing body has gone up every year since 2008.

But let’s suspend debate on whether an arts center is even needed. Have the parks trustees been informed that the village trustees are negotiating to build a new downtown area?

Wouldn’t it seem to make more sense to locate an arts center there and let the business development director focus on finding a new tenant for the Beth Am site, one that would pay property taxes instead of one which will likely increase our property tax rates?
