Vision, hearing screenings protect DuPage children

DUPAGE COUNTY—During Children's Eye Health and Safety Month in August, the DuPage County Health Department reminds parents that the Health Department offers vision and hearing screenings to County children in preschools, daycare facilities and public and private schools.

Certified hearing and vision technicians from the Health Department provide the screenings for vision and hearing. In the event that the child fails either screening, the parent is informed and instructed to make an appointment with their child's physician.

Health Department staff link uninsured and underinsured families with community resources where the child can receive follow-up examinations if necessary.

Identifying vision and hearing deficiencies at an early age will reduce the likelihood that these deficiencies will turn into learning disorders and behavioral problems and serves as the goal for this program. Vision and hearing information is provided to parents, school staff and the community.

This service is available throughout DuPage County. Interested persons should contact their schools or they may call the Health Department at (630) 682-7400 to get additional program and related fee information.
