• Monica M. Cruz, 30, of the 400 block of Franklin Street in Elgin, appeared in bond court Friday on a felony charge of theft of jewelry in June from her brother-in-law's home, according to court documents and police reports. Cruz is charged with stealing gold jewelry worth up to $10,000 that she told police she sold to a pawnshop for about $900, reports said. Bail was set at $5,000, of which Cruz must pay 10 percent to be released before her next court date, scheduled for Aug. 23 in St. Charles.

• Derrick A. Alexander, 38, of the 700 block of Grace Street in Elgin, appeared in bond court Monday on felony charges of forgery and copying recorded movies for profit, according to court documents. Alexander is charged with changing a prescription to try to get substantially more allergy medication than prescribed by Provena St. Joseph Hospital, documents said. When police arrested him they found 28 pirated DVDs in his car, reports said. Bail was set at $20,000 and Alexander was released after signing a commitment to appear at his next court date, scheduled for Aug. 29 in St. Charles.

• Byron J. Roe, 19, of the 100 block of Josephine Avenue in South Elgin, appeared in bond court Monday on misdemeanor charges of trespass to vehicle, damage to property and violation of a domestic violence bail bond, according to court documents. Roe is charged with entering a housemate's vehicle and damaging a gas can inside of it as well as returning to the house within 72 hours of his release from jail, violating conditions of his domestic violence bond, police reports said. Bail was set at $10,000 for the violations to his bond conditions, of which he must pay 10 percent to be released before his next court date, scheduled for Aug. 15 in St. Charles. Roe must pay 10 percent of the $5,000 bail for the other two charges, for which he should appear Aug. 27 in St. Charles.

• Daniel Figueroa, 18, of the 200 block of Sexauer Avenue in Elgin, was arrested and later charged with battery and resisting a police officer after punching a man on the street and then running away from officers who told him to stop shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of South McLean Boulevard, according to police reports. • Jose Figueroa, 29, of the 600 block of Slade Avenue in Elgin, was arrested and later charged with felony aggravated DUI for driving without a license or car insurance at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Dundee Avenue, according to police reports. Figueroa drove his car away from an officer who stopped him and then reversed into the officer's squad car before being removed from his vehicle and tested for his blood alcohol content, which was 0.24 percent -- three times the legal threshold, reports said.
