Unlocked garages target for theft in Des Plaines

Unlocked garages have been a common burglar target in recent days in Des Plaines.

According to police reports, overnight last Sunday, burglars stole items from three unlocked garages in the 1000 and 1100 blocks of South Sixth Avenue.

In one, they took two weed cutters, cordless drill and charger, two tool kits, mini-refrigerator, heat gun, three saws, and a pipe bender valued at $1,300. In another, they stole a 5-gallon bucket, two drills, two saws, belt sander, overhead bike pulley lift and jointer valued at $500. In a third, they stole a generator, GPS, three saws, drill, glass mosaic tile, bicycle, hand sander, power washer, and portable radio valued at $2,900.

Burglars also stole a generator, circular saw, computer and cooler out of a garage at a home on the 900 block of East Villa Drive between Aug. 2 and Sunday valued at $1,150. They stole a cordless drill and battery, and removed coins from unlocked cars on the 900 block of Hollywood Avenue Sunday night. They removed saws, power washer and generator on the 0-100 block of Ashland Avenue overnight Tuesday but left them behind the garage.
