Man dies in car crash in Alden Township

A 30-year-old man died in a single vehicle car crash early Saturday morning in unincorporated Alden Township northeast of Harvard, officials said.

Michael G. Doersam, of the 2000 block of Hunter Road in Caledonia, about 15 miles northeast of Rockford, was driving a 1997 Buick LeSabre westbound in the 17100 block of O’Brien Road when the vehicle left the south side of the roadway and struck a tree, McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said in a news release. The Harvard Fire Protection District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the crash at about 2:30 a.m.

Doersam was not wearing his seat belt and both air bags deployed in the vehicle, the release said. Doersam was pronounced dead at the scene by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. Toxicology results are pending, the release said.

The traffic crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s office accident investigation unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s office.
