St. Charles police say man threatened to shoot father, barricaded himself

St. Charles police said they arrested a man outside a townhouse on the 100 block of Whittington Course Saturday night after he threatened to shoot his father inside the townhouse and barricaded himself in the basement for several hours.

St. Charles police said they responded to the townhouse for a domestic disturbance. While en route, officers were notified that the man had threatened to shoot his father and had barricaded himself.

But when officers arrived, the man’s parents were safely outside the house.

Police established a perimeter and requested assistance from the Kane County SWAT team. Negotiations were conducted with the man inside the townhouse.

After several hours, the man agreed to come out of the house and was taken into custody. He was taken to Delnor Hospital by the St Charles Fire Department.

The name of the man was not released Saturday night because formal charges had not been made. The investigation is continuing.

An adjacent townhouse was evacuated as a precaution. Access to the rest of the townhouses was restricted.

Nobody was injured and no hostages were taken, police said.

Full access to all the townhouses was restored shortly after 8 p.m.
