The Buffalo Grove Park District’s BG Singers will celebrate their 20th anniversary performance as they present “Platinum” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the Stevenson High School Performing Arts Center, 1 Stevenson Drive, in Lincolnshire.

The songs for this special anniversary show were selected by polling audiences and the BG Singers themselves to find out which songs qualified as the all-time favorites.

Directed by Linda Rosen and choreographed by Charla Silver, “Platinum” will feature music for everyone, from popular rock hits such as “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Lean On Me” to Broadway medleys like “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Jersey Boys.”

“My favorite part of conducting this show is revisiting the music we selected from each of the past 19 years and hearing how much this very hard-working group has grown musically,” Rose said.

“Everything we are doing now sounds fresh and exciting and the singers are doing all the songs that they chose and love.”

As part of the anniversary celebration, BG Singer alumni were invited to join the group to sing the opening number, Barry Manilow’s “One Voice.”

“We are delighted to welcome back our alumni singers who, for various reasons, haven’t been able to commit to full seasons. It will be a special treat to be able to reacquaint former singers with the current group, in addition to having over 100 singers onstage to open the concert,” Rosen added.

Buffalo Grove Park District Executive Director Dan Schimmel said, “The entire park board and staff are very excited for the BG Singers’ 20th anniversary show. Twenty years is a long time for a program to run, and the BG Singers have been a staple in Buffalo Grove’s thriving arts community the entire time.

“The success and dedication of the group is well known throughout the village, and we are all looking forward to enjoying their talents for this 20th anniversary milestone.”

It is important to note that the September performance schedule is a major change for the show, since the BG Singers have rehearsed over the winter months and presented their annual show in the spring for the last 19 years.

Tickets for both performances are available at bigdealproductions.org. Advance ticket prices are $17 adults and $16 for kids ages 12 and younger and seniors 62 and older. All tickets purchased at the door cost $20.
