Arts in Bartlett presents ‘The Nature of Birds’
Arts in Bartlett presents “The Nature of Birds,” an exhibit of pastel paintings by Jenny Vogt, at the village hall gallery, on display through Aug. 30. The village of Bartlett 2nd floor Art Gallery, 228 Main St., in Bartlett, is open from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.
Vogt grew up enjoying the outdoors, wildlife and hiking. She became a self-proclaimed “birder” when a college roommate showed her the colorful migratory birds in a local cemetery. Over the years, she has traveled the country birding, recently getting involved in restoring natural areas and counting breeding birds to assess nesting success.
Watching wildlife and cultivating the prairies have been a surprising source of artistic inspiration. You see her passion for birds in this collection of paintings created in soft pastels.
Vogt earned a bachelor of fine arts degree at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. After a successful career in the advertising and publication fields, she returned to a more traditional medium, soft pastels.
Vogt has served on the board of directors for ornithological organizations, volunteers for several nature-oriented groups, leads bird walks, tutors young artists and is a committee member and mentor for the Youth Art Guild at Volo Bog.
The public is invited to a reception with refreshments and time to visit with Vogt, from 5:30-6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the gallery.
You can purchase Vogt’s paintings, prints and note cards through Arts In Bartlett’s Center for the Arts. You can see additional samples of her artwork at jennyvogt.com.
