Tri-Cities Little League wrapped up its baseball season later than most and with much to be proud of this year. Both the 11-U and 10-U All Star teams battled their way through area, district and sectional play in order to qualify for the coveted Illinois Little League State Tournament. Team players represented hometowns including East and West Dundee, Carpentersville, Sleepy Hollow and Gilberts.
It was the Tri-Cities 11-U All Star team's second consecutive trip to state, this year hosted by Hinsdale. Led by coach Greg Bernard, Tri-Cities beat Olney to place fourth in state and are even more determined to get the job done next year as they strive to go beyond the state level. Only 12-year-old teams have the opportunity to go beyond state level play and on to regional tournaments or even further -- to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn. The following were the All Star players for the Tri-Cities 11-U team: Hunter Consigny, Mitchell Hernandez, Justin Heusmann, Nolan Johnson, Trevor Laffin, Luke Lauder, Peyton McMahon, Liam Oreskovich, Jackson Prigge, Jack Randl, Adam Sonnefeldt, and Anthony Wilson
While the U-11's were heading home earlier than planned, the 10-U All Star team continued to play exceptionally strong, going all the way to the championship game against Hinsdale in downstate Rushville. They came up a little short and placed second in state after losing only one game throughout their state-bound journey. The 10-U team was coached by Tim Mahoney, who is also president of the Tri-Cities Little League board. The 10-U All-Stars include: Kevin Ahler, Enrique Arambur, Jacob Asplen, John Bubala, Daniel Gonzalez, Colin Konicek, Brock Lewis, Jack Mahoney, Liam Smith, Tyler Smith, and Max Warnke.
