Deerfield artist to display ‘Pet Portraits’

Submitted by Deerfield Park District

Marylou Houck, a local resident artist of Deerfield, will have her art on display through Aug. 31 at the Patty Turner Center, 375 Elm St., Deerfield.

Center Manager David Shamrock said, “Marylou says she enjoyed art class in high school, as well as various other classes at Elgin Community College, Northern Illinois University and the Art Institute of Chicago.

“It was her love of all things animal that prompted her to do ‘Pet Portraits,’ first from the collection of photos taken of her own pets, then from clients’ photos of their pets for commissioned portrait work. To date, these portraits have gone all over the United States.”

Besides her portrait work, Houck also enjoys painting landscapes. She uses mediums such as pencil, charcoal, pastel and watercolor.

Proceeds from the sale of her artwork helps to support the pets she has rescued.
