Road closure switch next week for Routes 64/47 project

The second phase of the reconstruction of the intersection of Routes 64 and 47 in Lily Lake begins Monday, weather permitting, with the opening of Route 64 to the east and the closing of Route 47 to the south.

The official Illinois Department of Transportation-listed detour for southbound Route 47 traffic is to take Route 64 to La Fox Road, then south on La Fox to Route 38. Cars could also take Anderson Road south from Route 64 to Route 38.

The state is putting in left-turn lanes for all directions, and adding a traffic signal. The roadway is also being raised to improve drainage.

The state expects the work to be finished by Nov. 15. The projected cost is $5.1 million.

Details on this and other construction projects in District 1 are available at dot.state.il.us. Updates on the effect on traffic are available at travelmidwest.com.

The first phase of roadwork at Routes 47 and 64 is nearly complete, and eastbound Route 64 should open to traffic Monday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Beginning Aug. 13, southbound Route 47 will be closed. Motorists should use La Fox Road to connect with Route 38 to the south. Laura Stoecker/lstoecker@dailyherald.com
