Palatine men charged with soliciting 16-year-old girl

Two Palatine brothers have been charged after they attempted to meet an undercover officer who was posing as a 16-year-old girl, police said.

A McHenry County sheriff’s investigator was working undercover on a social networking site when the investigator was contacted by Thomas P. Corbin, 54, of the 500 block of North Quinten Road, police said.

Police said Thomas solicited the “girl” in July to meet him at a hotel where he would provide drugs and alcohol.

Thomas Corbin made arrangements for his brother Rick J. Corbin to get in contact with the purported 16-year-old and after their conversation Rick Corbin reserved a hotel room at an undisclosed McHenry hotel, according to the sheriff’s office.

Following the monthlong investigation, McHenry County sheriff’s investigators set up a meeting with the Corbin brothers at the hotel and arrested them without incident on Friday.

Thomas Corbin was also wanted on a parole violation warrant for a 2010 possession of a controlled substance conviction, according to prison records.

Both men are being held in lieu of $60,000 bail on charges of traveling to meet a minor, solicitation to meet a minor and grooming, according to the sheriff’s office.

They are both due in court Thursday.
