Tour boat hits dock on Chicago River

Chicago Fire Department officials say at least nine people were injured when a tour boat hit a dock on the Chicago River.

An employee of the two-level boat’s operator, Wendella, said Monday the boat lost power during a docking maneuver and hit a concrete wall at full speed.

Gabriel Arellano, a 29-year-old passenger from Mexico City, told the Chicago Tribune the impact sent people sprawling to the deck.

Fire officials said there were at least 150 passengers on board the boat, which plies Lake Michigan and the river.

Ambulances sent to the scene near Michigan Avenue transported the injured to nearby hospital. Authorities said none of the injuries appeared to be serious.

Wendella temporarily suspended boat tours following the accident.
