Radio: WGN 720-AM

Pitching matchups: The Cubs' Travis Wood (5-7) vs. Eric Stults (1-2) Monday at 9:05 p.m.; TBD vs. Ross Ohlendorf (3-2) Tuesday at 9:05 p.m.; Jeff Samardzija (7-9) vs. Clayton Richard (8-11) Wednesday at 5:35 p.m.

At a glance: The Cubs swept the Padres in three at the end of May at Wrigley Field, outscoring them 24-16. Third baseman Josh Vitters, recalled by the Cubs from Class AAA Iowa on Sunday, figures to start against lefties Stults and Richard. The Padres are a woeful offensive team playing in a pitchers park. They entered Sunday ranked 20th in the majors in runs scored, 27th in batting average, 23rd on-base percentage and 29th in slugging. Their offensive leader is Chase Headley, who had a line of .271/.368/.434 with 14 homers and 58 RBI. Cubs right-hander Matt Garza, who has battled triceps cramping, hopes to start Tuesday.

Next: Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field, Thursday-Sunday
