Tax perks shouldn’t be used for layoffs

So I read in June 29 edition of the Daily Herald that Lawson Products plans to cut 100 jobs in a “restructure” after receiving a $7.8 million tax incentive from the state. Guess what? They are using that to pay for the “severance package” of $7 million to cut those 100 jobs.

When are the politicians in Springfield going to wise up and attach some strings to these tax incentives like having to maintain and grow the number of employees? I find it appalling that they are using our tax money to pay companies to lay people off. How many times are we going to continue to read this in the paper? This state needs to change they way it is doing business. It is costing us too much. Unfortunately, as long as we have the same people running it, things will never change.
