2 N. Ind. men arrested in arson double-fatal

GARY, Ind. — Two northern Indiana men have been arrested on murder, arson and other charges in an apartment fire that killed a Gary woman and her teenage daughter.

Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson announced the charges against 19-year-old Trevontay D. Milsap and 21-year-old Rafael Peluyera at a Thursday news conference held hours after the funeral for the two arson victims.

The July 25 fire killed 33-year-old Bernice King and 14-year-old Angel Harris.

The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports investigators determined an accelerant was poured outside King’s door, in a hallway and on a stairway in the Gary apartment building.

Court documents state investigators believe the fire was set after one of the two accused men argued with one of King’s children about a dispute over trading an Xbox game system for marijuana.
