St. Charles burglar gets 10 years in prison

A St. Charles man has been sentenced to a decade in prison for burglarizing an Elmhurst dry cleaner last year, police said Thursday.

Richard Jones, 51, will serve the sentence concurrent to a 10-year term he received in Cook County court for a similar burglary, according to court records.

Elmhurst police said Jones broke into Dulles Cleaners, 128 Addison Road, on May 30, 2011, and made off with cash and a small safe. He was charged about three months later, after he was named a suspect in an Orland Park burglary, which was similar to the Elmhurst break-in.

“Elmhurst detectives were able to develop evidence and tie the offender from the Orland Park burglary to the Dulles Cleaners burglary,” Deputy Chief James Kveton said in a news release.

Jones, who last lived on the 100 block of Walnut Drive in St. Charles, pleaded guilty to felony burglary at a recent court appearance in front of DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin, who imposed the 10-year term. Jones will receive credit toward his sentence for time in police custody since August 2011.
