Music notes: Lolla isn't the only show in town

Prog-rock pioneers

The English rock band Yes was part of the “progressive rock” movement that started in the late 1960s. Like its contemporaries Pink Floyd and Moody Blues, Yes largely eschewed basic verse-chorus-verse rock structures in favor of grander, more complicated compositions. Yes achieved early success, then went on hiatus before scoring a huge hit in the 1980s with the comeback record “90125.” The band's current lineup includes longtime members Steve Howe and Chris Squire, and it will perform next week in the suburbs. 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Akoo Theatre, 5400 N. River Road, Rosemont. $38 to $73. Go to ticketmaster.com.

Upcoming releases

The summer concert season may be winding down, but there are plenty of new albums on the way in August and beyond. Here are a few to look out for:

• Various, “Just Tell Me That You Want Me: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac” (Hear Music/Concord), Aug. 14 — An eclectic collection of bands, from indie-rock stars like the Kills and the New Pornographers to established artists like Marianne Faithful, covers songs from one of the driving forces in pop music during the 1970s and 1980s.

• Bob Mould, “Silver Age” (Merge), Sept. 4 — Former Husker Du and Sugar frontman returns with a new solo album of hard-driving pop songs.

• Local H, “Hallelujah! I'm a Bum” (Slimstyle), Sept. 18 — The power-pop duo from the suburbs of Lake County returns with a 17-track double album that frontman Scott Lucas described as a “flat-out political screed.”

• Dinosaur Jr, “I Bet on Sky” (Jagjaguwar), Sept. 18 — Legendary post-punk band continues its amazing second act with 10th studio album.
