Freedom eludes Boomers

The Schaumburg Boomers fell behind early and could not recover in a 7-1 defeat to the Florence Freedom in the opener of a road series Tuesday in Florence, Ky.

Florence opened a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a 2-run double from Drew Rundle with the bases loaded and a 2-run single from Jim Jacquot.

Alex Rivers (2-2) worked six innings for the Boomers, the 10th consecutive game in which a starter threw at least 6 innings.

The Boomers, who finished with 10 hits, broke up the shutout in the ninth with a two-out single from Nate Baumann. Frank Pfister finished 3-for-4 with a double while Tony Delmonico, starting in the field for the first time with the Boomers, also collected a pair of hits.
