Chicago woman charged in death of 1-year-old girl

A Chicago woman is being held without bond after being charged with murder in the death of a 1-year-old girl.

Keisha Jones was charged in the death of Iyonna Davis, who suffered several head injuries after, prosecutors say, the woman beat her over the weekend.

Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney John Dillon says the 25-year-old Jones agreed to watch Iyonna while the girl’s father went to a hospital on Sunday for a medical procedure. Jones reportedly called her boyfriend hours later to tell him Iyonna wasn’t breathing properly. The girl died an hour later at Roseland Hospital.

Dillon says the medical examiner’s office determined the little girl’s injuries were inflicted within six hours of her death and couldn’t have occurred as a result of her accidentally falling.
