GLMV celebrates Real Urban BBQ now open in Vernon Hills

Amid a series of grand opening weekend festivities, Real Urban Barbecue's (RUB) second location is now open in Vernon Hills.

The new restaurant, located at 1260 S. Milwaukee Ste. 100, at Route 45, is a GLMV Chamber Platinum Member.

RUB serves up it's signature smokey flair, including homemade BBQ sauce and slow-smoked items like award-winning ribs, pulled pork, turkey, brisket and chicken slowly rotated on Cookshack smokers capable of smoking 1600 lbs of meat daily. They also offer carryout and catering.

"We are so excited to be in Vernon Hills," says owner Jeff Shapiro, "and to be part of the GLMV Chamber community."

Prior to RUB, Shapiro worked for Lettuce Entertain You restaurants for 14 years, and most recently was with Carmichaels Steak House in Chicago. He also has won trophies in the BBQ competition circuit for many years.

Grand Opening activities included a ribbon cutting ceremony with fellow Vernon Hills neighbors and GLMV Chamber of Commerce business leaders.

Since opening in November 2010 in Highland Park, Real Urban Barbecue has quickly become a celebrity favorite with regular visits from Chicago Bulls, Bears, and others.

The restaurant has been featured in Chicago Magazine, Chicago Tribune, and numerous other area publications. Recently, they won awards in several categories at Ribfest 2012 in Chicago.
