Drury Lane announces 2013-14 season

A mix of old classics and acclaimed new shows are part of the 2013-14 lineup announced Monday at the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace.

Shows include the popular new Broadway comedy “Boeing Boeing,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical drama “Next to Normal,” a musical version of the Mel Brooks classic “Young Frankenstein” and the popular musicals “Oliver” and “Hello, Dolly!”

“With a lot of these shows, when they toured through (Chicago), they were only here for a limited number of time, so this is an opportunity for people to see some really great titles,” said the theater’s executive producer, Kyle DeSantis.

He said Drury Lane has wanted to stage “Next to Normal” — about a family coping with the mother’s bipolar disorder — since he and Artistic Director Bill Osetek saw it in New York a few years ago.

“This is a great season,” DeSantis added. “There’s a really great variety for a broad audience.”

The season begins in the spring of 2013 with “Oliver” (April 4 to June 2), followed by “Boeing Boeing” (June 13 to Aug. 4), “Next to Normal” (Aug. 15 to Oct. 6), “Hello, Dolly!” (Oct. 17 to Jan. 5, 2014) and “Young Frankenstein” (Jan. 16 to March 23, 2014).

Ticket prices range from $35 to $68, but student tickets start as low as $20, and senior citizen tickets as low as $30. Matinee lunch and season ticket packages also are available, as are season subscriptions.
