Dogs permitted in Des Plaines Park District parks

Effective Aug. 1, dogs on leashes and under owner control will be permitted in all Des Plaines Park District Parks. Owners will be required to bring appropriate pet waste bags and pick up after their pet.

“The Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance for people and pets to get regular exercise, and for many, the best way to do that is in a public park,” said John Hecker, executive director of the Des Plaines Park District.

The pet friendly-approach will, however, include some restricted areas, including playgrounds, athletic fields, skate/bike parks, tennis/volleyball/basketball courts, golf courses, picnic shelters, ponds and lakes. Further restrictions may be imposed based on special circumstances, including special events/public gatherings. Leashes may not extend more than six feet in length.
