Motorola Mobility leaving Libertyville for Chicago

Motorola Mobility Inc. is headed to Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, in a move that is expected to be completed by 2013. The Libertyville-based firm’s new location will house the about 3,000 now-Libertyville workers and will consolidate workers from other offices worldwide into the new downtown Chicago headquarters, the company announced yesterday. Fake pot targeted in Lake County’s large-scale sting

Authorities seized about $103,200, synthetic marijuana, six grams of real pot, four grams of heroin, four pistols and two vehicles during a search of six Lake County businesses yesterday. “The cash that we seized obviously is significant and it’s a great deterrent,” said Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran at a news conference. Theater shooting victim’s body escorted by veterans groups to Crystal Lake

The body of Crystal Lake Navy officer John Larimer was returned to his hometown yesterday, almost a week after the Crystal Lake South High School graduate was killed in the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colo. Members of the Illinois Old Guard, Patriot Guard and other veterans groups joined Crystal Lake police and fire departments in escorting Larimer’s hearse to the funeral home. Full story.

More than 125,000 votes had been cast online for the Fan Favorite component of Suburban Chicago’s Got Talent as of last night, while voters have until noon today to weigh in. Ex-deputy suing Kane County, sheriff

Kane County and Sheriff Pat Perez are facing allegations of a politically motivated firing of a deputy who seeks more than $1 million in damages. Steve Yahnke, Perez’s former training officer, filed a federal lawsuit claiming the sheriff made him a political enemy and fired him after Yahnke supported Perez’s opponent in 2006. Perez and the sheriff’s department were found guilty of illegal retaliation against a union court security officer earlier this week. Full story.

Tollway construction project to add 35 jobs

The Illinois Tollway’s $12 billion Move Illinois Construction program will add 35 jobs in the next five years in engineering and technology-based positions. The $12 billion program includes extending the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway east to the airport and building a western bypass, building an interchange at I-57 and the Tri-State Tollway, and widening the Jane Addams Tollway. Traffic

No major problems to report early this morning, and most tollways and highways are operation congestion free early. Construction continues on Pingree Road between Cog Circle and Grandview Drive in Crystal Lake. People are urged to use a detour through IL Route 31 between US. Route 14 and Crystal Lake Avenue. Bears’ Marshall talks explosive offenses at training camp

The Bears training camp is under way, and the man of the day yesterday had to be Brandon Marshall, who when asked if this was the most explosive offense he had ever played on, responded with an emphatic “Not even close.” “(In) 1994, my Little League team, the Kingsley Knights — no, I’m being honest — I mean, we were scoring at will,” Marshall told an amused audience Thursday morning. The Olympics begin tonight

In total, 45 athletes in London this morning to participate in the Olympic Games have ties to the Chicago area with 15 of those from the suburbs. They will take part in the opening ceremony tonight to celebrate the start of the Olympics. Full story.
