LG in Lincolnshire launches security line

LG Electronics USA, which has operations in Lincolnshire, has launched a new line of high-definition security cameras and related products to help both businesses and homeowners keep tabs on things.

LG plans to roll out 14 products that include both Internet protocol and analog cameras, helping the industry transition more into the digital age, said LG spokesman John Taylor.

"The majority of the cameras in the industry today are still in analog," Taylor said. "But we now have the opportunity for LG to help lead the industry to go to IP-based technology." The products include the LG Wireless HD Network IP Cube camera, which goes by the model No. LW130W, which offers high resolution day or night video images. It also has a free and simple Android or iPhone application for remote viewing and monitoring from anywhere with a smartphone. It sells for $235 online at Super Circuit's website at www.supercircuits.com/lp/lg-security. Another online outlet is Security Cameras Direct: www.securitycamerasdirect.com/products?keywords=LG

More places to buy them will be available as well as more products are expected to launch later this year, said George Farley, Observint Technologies' chief marketing officer.

LG will be working with Observint Technology, which will distribute the products to those who will install them into homes and businesses.

LG dabbled briefly in the security area a few years ago, but that partner went out of business and LG needed to search again for a new partner, Taylor said.

Not counting that brief fling a few years ago, LG is a newcomer to the security technology field in the United States.

"It's a crowded field with lots of players in this market," Taylor said. "But we have the LG brand name behind this and have been in the security business for about a dozen years worldwide."
