New soccer franchise to bare its Soul in suburbs

Now there is a new name and a new face — or logo to be accurate — to put with the newest pro sports franchise in the suburbs.

The newest member of the 8-team Major Indoor Soccer League will be officially known as Chicago Soul FC, and team officials unveiled a new logo Wednesday for the fledging franchise. The logo features black, white, neon green and silver colors within a triangular emblem and consists of a blazing soccer ball over the text, “Chicago Soul FC.”

“We’re excited to have the logo completed, and are now working hard at getting all the pieces of the team and organization together to have a great inaugural season,” said owner and COO Dave Mokry.

The Soul will open their indoor season in the MISL on Nov. 11 on the road against the Milwaukee Wave, and the Chicago club will kick off its home opener Dec. 7 at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates.

The club will be coached by Mexico native Narciso “Chicho” Cuevas, a former assistant coach of Mexican Club of America under Guillermo Huerta, and an international scout for Mexican club Pachuca.

The MISL, acquired by the United Soccer Leagues in May 2011, represents the top level of pro indoor soccer in North America. The Chicago Soul will compete in the Central Division against the Milwaukee Wave, Missouri Comets and Wichita against Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Norfolk, Rochester, Syracuse and Wichita. They also will play against the Baltimore Blast, Norfolk SharX, Rochester Lancers and Syracuse Silver Knights of the Eastern Division.
