Rattlers pounce on Cougars

A five-run second inning was all the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers needed as they knocked off the Kane County Cougars 5-2 Wednesday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Angel Baez (5-3) had only allowed 1 earned run all month until the Timber Rattlers (58-42, 14-17) busted things open in the top of the second.

Nick Ramirez doubled with one out and scored on a single off the bat of Mike Garza. Garza ended up at third after a Rafael Neda single which loaded the bases. Yadiel Rivera’s fielder’s choice scored Garza.

Chadwin Stang came up with the big blow, a triple into right-center, scoring Lance Roenicke and Rivera. Stang.

Baez didn’t give up another hit as he made it through 5 innings while striking out five. Matt Miller (8-7) started for the Timber Rattlers and worked 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.

Justin Trapp helped the Cougars (50-51, 16-15) take the lead in the bottom of the first by singling and stealing second before scoring on a base hit from Danny Mateo.

Trapp ripped a triple to deep center in the seventh which brought Kenny Swab across the plate.
