Maybe writer jealous of Romney’s wealth

Eugene Robinson strikes again. In his July 10 column, he has proved he can take any topic and make it anti-Republican. He berates Mitt Romney for doing what any sensible person would do if they had excess income to invest and protect. When anyone with half a brain comes into a windfall, the first move is to go to the CPA’s, lawyers and tax experts and protect oneself.

Mr. Robinson thinks that taking prudent steps to preserve savings and income is somehow bad, and Romney should be blamed for it. What nonsense! Mr. Romney did not make the laws. He is only taking care of himself and his people by making sure that they take advantage of all of the laws that they had nothing to do with passing. To do otherwise would be stupid, and I for one would not want a president who was not intelligent enough to play the game the best it can be played within the rules.

If Eugene Robinson has a problem with the tax law, then he should talk to the congressmen who sold out to all the lobbyists in writing the law, not berate Romney who simply does what all of us (including Mr. Robinson, I suspect) do when it comes to making sure we do not overpay our taxes and preserve what we have to the best of our ability.

If he wants to rail against our stupid tax law and lobby for its simplification, I’m there. But to blame Romney and make him a bad person for doing what makes good sense and is what any sane person would do is pure political hogwash. What’s the matter, Eugene? Are you just jealous you don’t have enough so that you can have an offshore account?
