GOP has rid itself of moderates

The Republican Party has gone so far to the right that it has not only halfway destroyed the middle class but has rid itself of any moderate members. Once again it has allied itself with the religious right.

The continual attack on social programs is disturbing as many of the attackers claim to be Christians. They don’t seem to remember the dozen or more requirements to aid the poor, the disabled and the unfortunate.

The radicals who condemn people who ascribe to other religions of not being of the true faith are ignorant of their own beginnings.

But the important thing is that by not following the teaching of the Bible people act contrary to the dictates of their faith. Our Christian Republicans are guilty of this and probably many Democrats, too.

I agree that we are living above our means but such an abrupt change is much too harsh. I don’t see any of our lawmakers sacrificing much so maybe they should lead by example and obey the dictates of the religion they claim to espouse. Taking free medical care should be the first thing removed so that they will have to experience illnesses that they have to pay for out of pocket.

As far as the claim that the United States is founded on religion, is false. Even George Washington said “That the United States is in no sense founded upon Christian doctrine.”

The latest poll as to religious affiliation says that only 71 percent claim any religion at all. That leaves a big chunk of nonbelievers that are, at least, honest about the subject and are not Sunday Christians.
