Walsh right about Duckworth’s comments

I feel that Ms. Tammy Duckworth is a little off base with her recent comments concerning Mr. Joe Walsh’s comments about her continued reference to her service connected disability (Daily Herald, July 4). Mr. Walsh states that Ms. Duckworth repeatedly brings up her service and sacrifice. I too am a retired veteran of over 20 years with a family history of military service. I married into a family with a history of military and government service, and based on that I have to say that I see nothing wrong nor do I feel offended by what Mr. Walsh pointed out when saying that Ms. Duckworth seems to always mention her disability. She is a candidate that was plucked out of obscurity by the political machine of Illinois when a certain presidential candidate and a certain senior senator thought they could get some mileage out of it.

Is she the best qualified candidate? The people will decide that on Election Day. Was she chosen by a political machine over other veterans that also suffer with combat-inflicted disabilities both visible and unseen? That is obvious. Is she complicit in this political game? Yes.

So, Ms. Duckworth, from one retired veteran to another, don’t tell all veterans to be offended by a statement that I for one feel is on the mark while continuing to be a willing pawn in the political landscape of Illinois.
