Mundelein Boy Scout stages show at Winchester House as Eagle project

Patients at the Winchester House nursing home in Libertyville were treated to a musical revue Friday afternoon, courtesy of a Mundelein teen aiming to become an Eagle Scout.

With help from friends and other Boy Scouts in Troop 198, 14-year-old Christian Phillips organized and then hosted the show at the Lake County-owned facility. The effort was designed to show off Phillips’ leadership skills, a key requirement for Eagle Scout status.

“I’ve worked hard to get to this point,” he told the roughly 100 people in the audience. “I hope you enjoy the music.”

And they did, starting with an instrumental performance of Van Morrison’s “Moondance” performed by two Scouts wielding a saxophone and a trumpet.

A classical piano piece and other performances followed.

Cameron Grisamore, 11, was among the Boy Scouts who helped bring the Winchester House patients to the center’s dining and recreation room for the event.

He said he was happy to assist Phillips with the project.

“It’s good to help a friend,” the Long Grove youth said.
