Homeless man charged with shooting Des Plaines teen in head

A homeless man is accused of shooting a Des Plaines man in the temple during an altercation in a Mount Prospect parking lot early Monday morning, according to police.

At about 12:30 a.m. Monday, the 19-year-old victim and a group of friends were confronted by Alan J. Frank in a parking lot in the 2200 block of South Elmhurst Road, police announced Thursday.

Frank and the group got in a verbal altercation, and during the altercation, Frank pulled out a handgun, police said.

Frank, 25, shot the victim once in the left temple, according to police.

Fire officials said the victim crossed into Elk Grove Township, and paramedics with the Elk Grove Township Fire District transported him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Medical personnel deemed the injuries nonlife-threatening, according to Mount Prospect police.

Mount Prospect police officers arrested Frank shortly after the shooting, and recovered a handgun, according to authorities.

Police said Frank admitted his involvement in the shooting.

Frank was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery and possession of a controlled substance.

A judge set his bail at $250,000, and he is due in court Aug. 9.
