Pitching matchups: The Cubs' Paul Maholm (6-6) vs. Ian Kennedy (6-7) Friday at 1:20 p.m.; Ryan Dempster (4-3) vs. Joe Saunders (4-5) Saturday at 12:05 p.m.; Matt Garza (4-7) vs. Trevor Cahill (7-7) Sunday at 1:20 p.m.

At a glance: The Cubs were swept in Arizona June 22-24, getting outscored 21-7. The Diamondbacks (42-43) enter the unofficial second half of the season third in the NL West and fighting for a playoff spot. Jason Kubel leads the D'backs in homers (15) and RBI (60), while Aaron Hill leads in hits (64). The Cubs' Anthony Rizzo had an eight-game hitting streak snapped Sunday. Maholm is tied for the Cubs' team lead in victories with Jeff Samardzija. Saturday's game was moved from a 3:05 p.m. start to 12:05.
