Carol Stream eyes new day for fireworks

Carol Stream is considering whether to have to the village’s canceled fireworks show and concert over Labor Day weekend.

The village earlier this month joined Wheaton in calling off its July 4 festivities because of safety concerns related to hot weather, dry conditions and debris from the massive July 1 storm.

@$ID/NormalParagraphStyle:Carol Stream board members are expected to decide Monday if they want to reschedule the concert and fireworks to Sept. 2.

Chris Oakley, assistant to the village manager, said the plan for Sept. 2 calls for a band to perform from 6 to 8 p.m. and the fireworks to begin closer to 8:15 p.m. “All of our vendors have been called and are onboard,” Oakley said.

Wheaton, meanwhile, has rescheduled its parade and fireworks display to Labor Day weekend.

The Wheaton Park District announced that Graf Park will open at 5 p.m. Sept. 2 for “picnicking and family fun.” The evening will conclude with a fireworks display starting just after sunset. Graf Park is located next to the DuPage County Fairgrounds, 1701 Manchester Road in Wheaton.

Then on Sept. 3, the parade will step off at 9 a.m. from Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard.
