Schaumburg’s Got Talent returns Aug. 10

As we know by now, even televised talent shows are a lot more interesting when there’s a local contestant or two to root for.

And next month, the Schaumburg Park District has a talent show that guarantees to be that entertaining.

The 2012 edition of Schaumburg’s Got Talent will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at the park district’s Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg.

Attendees can choose to compete, perform just for fun or simply watch the event.

Entries may perform competitively or noncompetitively. Acts who are competing to win will be judged.

Contestants from each age category with the highest scores from the judges will go on to compete via web voting on parkfun.com.

Prizes will be awarded to the winner, chosen by the highest combined judge and community votes.

Contestants must preregister to audition. They will be contacted regarding audition times and there will be a mandatory rehearsal for all contestants from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9.

Talent categories include singing, music, dancing, magic, juggling, comedy, acting and acrobatics. Age categories include ages 4 to 7, 8 to 12, 13 to 18, 19 to 25, 26 and up, and multigenerational.

The competitive act fee is $10 per person for park district residents and $15 per person for nonresidents. The noncompetitive act fee is $5 per person for residents and $10 per person for nonresidents.

Registration forms are available at parkfun.com.

Tickets to watch the performance will be available at the Community Recreation Center’s north registration counter beginning on Aug. 1. The ticket price is $6 for both youth and adults.
