Houses that are really Colonials

How well do you know your U.S. history? It might have been awhile since your eighth-grade civics class, but you probably know many of the oldest homes and historic areas in the nation run up and down the East Coast.

Although the first Europeans touched down in Massachusetts, Virginia claims the honor as the first colony. A home on Prince George Street in Urbanna, Va., built in 1742, is currently listed for $495,000.

Massachusetts, the home of the Pilgrims’ Plymouth Colony, held some of the earliest European settlements. A home built in 1707 on Baker Avenue in Concord, Mass., is listed for sale at $985,000.

Following North Carolina’s colonization, explorers migrated farther south, colonizing South Carolina in 1663. A four-story, 1780 house on Battery Street in downtown Charleston, S.C., is now on the market for $8.9 million.
