Schaumburg doctor receives 30-month prison sentence

A Schaumburg doctor received a 30-month prison sentence after being convicted of health care fraud and making false statements during a weeklong federal trial.

Jaswinder Rai Chhibber, 50, was convicted in March of submitting false insurance claims for unnecessary tests and falsifying diagnoses to justify those tests.

He is expected to begin serving the sentence by Sept. 5. He was also ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.

He had been facing up to 10 years in prison.

Chhibber operated a clinic on the South Side of Chicago and defrauded Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois, federal prosecutors said.
