David Cassidy headlines Des Plaines Summer Fling

David Cassidy should know his way to Des Plaines — after all, he played Rosemont just last year with the late Davy Jones.

Cassidy, who can still coax a swoon or two from the female fans in his audiences, will be the headliner Saturday night at the Summer Fling festival in downtown Des Plaines.

Summer Fling is a weekend-long shindig for both the community and its neighbors Friday through Sunday. Back for the second year will be a nonstop music lineup, arts and craft vendors, kids' activities (including pony rides and a petting zoo), food vendors and carnival rides.

Carnival rides alone kick off the weekend early on Thursday, July 12. Hours are 5-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon-11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in downtown Des Plaines, between River Road and Lee Street.

The festival, only in its second year as a replacement for the old Taste of Des Plaines, is already getting a reputation for music. Last year's headliner was 10,000 Maniacs. This year it's Cassidy, but a lot of people will also come to hear the classic band Ides of March, the Friday night headliners and Infinity, the Journey tribute band, on Sunday.

Admission is $3, carnival rides additional. For more visit www.chicagoevents.com or call (773) 868-3010.
