Second Suburb Players Theater Group presents Into The Woods, Jr.

Second Suburb Players is a theater group based in Palatine, Illinois that is sponsored by the Palatine Park District. The group has been presenting theatrical productions since 1986, working with young performers ages 14 to 20. Second Suburb Players presents one major musical theater production each summer.

This year's show is “Into the Woods, Jr.” The story is a twisted combination of a host of favorite characters. An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch... who raps? They're all among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fractured fairy tale. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy in the style of The Princess Bride becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

The show will be presented over the course of two weekends, July 13-15 and July 20-22. Friday and Saturday shows will be held at 7:30pm, and the Sunday performances will be offered at 3:00pm. Tickets are $12 in advance/$14 at the door for adults, and $10 in advance/$12 at the door for seniors and students. A special one hour highlight show will also be offered on Thursday, July 19 at 10:30am; tickets for the highlight performance are $5 per person. All performances will be held at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood Street, Palatine. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or www.cuttinghall.org.
