By

The Buffalo Grove Thunder, a 12-and-under travel baseball team, captured the Mid Suburban Baseball League National League championship July 1 with a 14-3 victory over Glenview Blaze Black in the league championship game.

The Thunder finished their league season undefeated, with a 24-0 record.

The championship marks the Thunder's first league title in the team's three-year history. The Thunder will compete in the Central Iowa Sports Summer Sizzler Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, later this month.

While in Iowa, the team will visit the Field of Dreams movie site and attend an Iowa Cubs game. In previous years, the Thunder have competed in tournaments in St. Louis and Wisconsin Dells.

The Thunder begin indoor practices each year in January. The team's season begins in early April and concludes in July. Coaches emphasize fun, mutual support and player and team development within the context of competitive league play.

The Buffalo Grove Thunder players are Jack Aiello, Alex Capstick, Jake Davis, Connor Friesen, Spencer Greenstein, Grant Hochman, Matthew Mittelmark, Jarrett Pease, Brad Ross, Jack Vaselaney and Josh Weisberg.
