Legal gay marriage would be a mistake

Little surprise in the Herald’s endorsement of gay marriage. The past few weeks have contained many articles favoring same. The real stretch is their claim that without faux marriage, real citizenship is denied. Attempts to draw comparisons to denial of women’s vote and racial inequality were used — both examples in which a person’s rights were denied by sex or color, not a choice of sexual activity.

In a 1979-80 study “The Media Elite,” Robert Lichter and Stanley Rothman interviewed 240 media individuals clearly showed liberal bias existing within the media. Some of their findings: 90 percent supported abortion. 75 percent disagreed that homosexuality was wrong. 54 percent did not regard adultery as wrong. Only 8 percent attended church or synagogue weekly. I doubt that little has changed over the past 33 years.

The Editorial Board got it right when they said “It is not the government’s job to decide whether gay marriage is good or bad.” “Allow the people their freedom on this.” I agree wholeheartedly. Where the people with their vote have spoken on this issue, all 32 states kept marriage between one man, one woman. Do the media elite and President Obama know more?

Appropriately, the board gave recognition “to people of good will” with different views on traditional marriage stating, “respect for religious views is due.” However homosexual activists refer to those of us who practice our faith this way as homophobes, religious zealots and haters. To me a badge of honor.

Almighty God ordained traditional marriage as his way for what is best for us. Research has shown that children do far better when blessed with both father and mother. That alone makes any drastic change a huge step in the wrong direction. Speak up before this tragic mistake occurs.
