Timber Rattlers come back on Cougars

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — After falling into a 3-0 hole early, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers roared back to defeat the Kane County Cougars 6-4 ballgame on Monday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium.

Julio Aparicio put the Cougars (44-44) on the board initially as he drilled a home run to straightaway center field in the top of the second against starter David Goforth (6-4). Goforth allowed 2 more runs in the third as Danny Mateo tripled home Tim Ferguson, and Mateo scored on a triple from Aparicio to put the Cougars up 3-0.

Kyle Smith worked 4 innings for the Cougars and struck out seven. But he allowed the Timber Rattlers (53-34) to grab a run in the bottom of the third on a solo homer from Ben McMahon, and Wisconsin evened the score in the fifth to chase Smith.

The Timber Rattlers went ahead for good in the sixth inning, when four consecutive singles allowed by Cougars reliever Jason Mitchell (3-5) led to 3 runs.

The Cougars return home to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to start a series against the South Bend Silver Hawks.
