Cougars get clobbered by Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — Catcher Cameron Garfield provided plenty of offense to back Chad Pierce in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers’ 10-0 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium.

Garfield first came through for the Timber Rattlers (52-34, 8-9) in the bottom of the first inning with a double off the wall in center to score Brandon Macias and Ben McMahan and cap a 3-run burst. McMahan had given the Rattlers their initial run when bounced a double off the glove of Danny Mateo at third base to drove home Chadwin Stang.

Cougars starter Bryan Brickhouse (1-1) kept the Timber Rattlers at 3 runs until the bottom of the fifth when Wisconsin picked up 2 more, in part because of Brickhouse’s throwing error. Adrian Williams walked and went to third on a single by Stang. On a pickoff attempt of Stang at first, Brickhouse made an errant throw that scored Williams. Stang came home on a suicide squeeze bunt from Macias.

Garfield helped put the game away in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double prior to sacrifice flies from Yadiel Rivera and Stang. Pierce (3-3) tossed 6 scoreless innings for the Timber Rattlers, scattering 6 hits and fanning four. The Timber Rattlers added a pair of RBI singles in the eighth by Stang and Macias to make it 10-0.
