Knights of Columbus pack meals for Schaumburg Feed My Starving Children

Submitted by St. Mary of Huntley KC 11666

On May 23, a group of Knights and family members from the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666 volunteered to pack meals for the Feed My Starving Children Program. Feed My Starving Children meals are produced by volunteers at the Schaumburg locations and locations all over the United States.

The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals formulated specifically for malnourished children, and FMSC ships the meals to nearly 70 countries. In 2011, FMSC sent more than 133 million meals around the world, thanks to the work of more than 565,000 volunteers. FMSC’s volunteer program offers groups of all kinds the opportunity to work together in a positive, team-focused environment.

FMSC is a nonprofit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit, with a vision that with God’s help, FMSC will strive to eliminate starvation in children through the world by helping to instill compassion in people to hear and respond to the cries of those in need. A single meal costs 22 cents to produce and 93 percent of all total donations go directly toward the food program. FMSC can be contacted at the Schaumburg site at (847) 519-9614 or for general inquiries, send a message to info@fmsc.org.

The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.8 million members in more than 14,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 72 million volunteer hours and $151 million in charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, families and youth.
