A two-story house was badly damaged by a fire Saturday in Streamwood, authorities said.
One firefighter had to be taken to a suburban hospital after being overcome by the heat, Streamwood Fire Department Batallion Chief Bob Wysong said. No other injuries were reported.
The blaze on the 100 block of Grey Fox Court was reported about 10:40 a.m. Residents were home at the time but escaped safely, Wysong said.
The fire spread to a grass field and a nearby storage building, destroying it, Wysong said.
Firefighters from Barlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Bloomingdale, Pingree Grove, Carpentersville and many other suburbs came in to help douse the fire. It was out within a couple hours.
Because of the day's heat, special trucks made the trip to keep the firefighters hydrated, too, Wysong said.
The firefighter who was injured was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Information on his condition was not immediately available.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. Damage was estimated at more than $200,000.
