Chicago man accused of hauling drugs through South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A Chicago man has been indicted for trying to haul 250 pounds of packaged marijuana through South Dakota, authorities said.

Police allege that 19-year-old Angel Maldonado Peraza was hauling the drugs from Utah to Chicago when he was stopped on Interstate 90 in Minnehaha County on June 21. The Argus Leader newspaper reported that he had bond set at $50,000 the next day.

A grand jury this week indicted him on two felony drug charges that together carry a maximum punishment upon conviction of 30 years in prison.
