ComEd restores power to 99 percent of customers

Repair crews have restored service to more than 300,000 Commonwealth Edison customers who were left in the dark after Sunday’s storms, but about 1,500 others remain without power in the hardest-hit areas.

In a statement Thursday, ComEd says the remaining outages are in Chicago’s western suburbs and they will be restored later in the day. ComEd CEO Anne Pramaggiore (prah-mah-JHOR’-ee) says crews will work non-stop until every customer has service again.

The storms that swept through northern Illinois downed trees and utility poles, bringing down miles of power lines.

ComEd says it has replaced more than 307,000 feet of overhead wire and cable, which is enough to stretch from Wrigley Field in Chicago to the Wisconsin state line.
