Brunwick Zone in Algonquin closes

One of the two Brunswick Zone bowling alleys in Algonquin has closed.

The location at 2075 Algonquin Road closed sometime in May after being open for at least 30 years, said Tom Hays, service manager at Brunswick Zone XL on Randall Road in Algonquin.

“Somebody owned it before we did,” he said. He didn't know why the location closed.

Algonquin Trustee Debby Sosine said she will miss the bowling alley, which she had frequented for about 20 years. She and her husband were part of a bowling league there until last year, she said. She didn't know why the business closed, she said.

“We'd have our bowling banquets there. People had birthday parties, all kinds of parties, and there was also a game room,” she said.

The now-closed location hosted a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County in February.

There are 15 Brunswick Zone locations in the Chicago area, including in Lake Zurich and Roselle.
