"The Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance for people and pets to get regular exercise, and for many the best way to do that is in a public park," said John Hecker, Executive Director of the Des Plaines Park District.

The pet friendly approach will, however, include some restricted areas including: Playgrounds, Athletic Fields, Skate/Bike Parks, Tennis/Volleyball/Basketball Courts, Golf Courses, Picnic Shelters, Ponds and Lakes.

Further restrictions may be imposed based on special circumstances including special events/public gatherings. Leashes may not extend more than 6 feet in length.
